But that's a £500 improvement on last week Friday, so moving in the right direction at least.
I am not expecting too much from next week to be honest, I think trading will be pretty flat pre-Xmas but let's see. I am away from Friday, going to a cottage in the middle of nowhere to relax over the Xmas period and won't worry about my bets at all the following week (will try not to anyway but have my stop losses in place as always so I am covered for any catastrophes !!)
I mentioned in my twitter post (follow me @olivertomahawk) on Friday that I may have been a victim of overtrading. I have closed some of my bets before they hit my stoploss because I couldn't see them going anywhere. But, looking back, maybe I should have held out a bit longer because in all of them except one, I would have been better off. I would have been better off to the tune of £1073 better off, which would put me nicely into net profits.
This is an interesting lesson.
It's always tricky to know when to cut your losses and there are books practically written on the subject but maybe I need to be less impatient and let my initial stop loss do its job. I always set stop losses at 7% below and for spreadbets that is probably quite close actually. Need to maybe reconsider my strategy on this though and will post any thoughts !

ReplyDeleteDo you have Guaranteed Stops in place, or do you have normal stop losses? One can't go on holiday with the latter if the price steps below your stop figure.
I use normal stop losses. I am not willing to pay the extra spread for guaranteed stops!
